March 2022

Sometimes we make mistakes and we disappoint ourselves and others. Sometimes things do not work out like we planned and sometimes we fail. Failure is part of life. It can only be prevented if we do nothing and live alone in a vacuum. After the initial shock, vulnerability rises and negative emotions are often being experienced. Emotions such as anxiety, helplessness, frustration, anger, hopelessness may vary in intensity and duration between individuals.

How to deal with Failure:
  1. Feel your emotion: identify and feel the emotions on the emotional and physical basis. Express them and regulate the intensity.
  2. Realize that demanding from yourself to always succeed is not realistic.  Try to find flexibility in what you ask of yourself. Challenge what you say to yourself and find a more rational and positive way to talk to yourself.
  3. Find acceptance – Recognize the negative results; acknowledge what it means to you and its impact on your life and  be honest about your part in the result.
  4. Learn- analyze the situation and think what you can learn from it and how you can improve the next time. Think what you will need  in order to achieve better results.  For example, more education, skill development, the support of someone, money, more practice etc. Use  the failure and new insights to find growth, not avoidance and procrastination. Make an action plan for future cases.
